Signs Your Roof Is Failing Even If You Think It Looks Fine
Jul 15, 2026

Did you know that a roof can have underlying problems even if they are not immediately visible? That’s right. A roof does not have to be leaking to have serious issues. In fact, many problems start long before signs become visible. Catching early warning signs can help you avoid costly repairs, fixing them before they spiral out of control, and extending the life of your roof.
One of the first things that to look for, that many do not know about, is granules. When shingle granules collect in your gutters, or at the bottom of your downspout, it is important to take action. Why? Granules protect shingles from the sun’s UV rays. However, as they wear away, the roof becomes much more vulnerable to damage and aging.
The next thing to look for is areas that appear darker than the rest of the roof, buckling or curling shingles, or shingles that are sitting unevenly. You can look for these from the ground. Even subtle changes can be indicative of larger problems, such as moisture that has worked its way beneath the roofing materials, or that the shingles are nearing the end of their lifespan.
You can also look for more obvious problems from the inside of your home. These include water stains on ceilings, peeling paint near the roofline, or a musty smell in the attic. All of these signs point to possible leaks and other water damage.
Finally, consider the age of your roof. If your roof is on the older sign it is always worth it to have a professional come and do an inspection. We offer free inspections for this reason.
