Why Fall Leaves on Your Roof Can Attract Unwanted Critters

During autumn, it is very difficult to prevent leaves from winding up on your roof. It is just a sort of the season, and it is beautiful to look at.

However, leaves on roofs actually come with quite a few hazards. One of the biggest issues caused by accumulating leaves has to do with the critters that come along with them. 

When leaves pile up, they offer a good source of debris that can provide shelter for rodents, birds, insects, and many other small critters. No homeowner wants these creatures on their home, especially for long periods of time.

As temperatures drop, like they do in the fall, animals naturally look for a warm  and protected source of shelter. A pile of leaves on a roof can provide this.

Once critters discover a cozy area, they might also begin to investigate nearby openings around the roof, vents, chimneys, and much more. Birds and rodents might even build nests as well, using shelter spaces to seek protection. Sometime, this is inside the roof, and once rodents make their ways inside, it’s very difficult to get rid of them.

Critters can also disturb how shingles may or move around insulation inside of the roof or attic.

A great way to prevent all of this is to keep trees trimmed back so less leaves pile up. In addition, simply walking around the house, and looking for piles of leaves can help locate them, allowing time to clear them if possible.
