Many wonder, however, how commercial roofs differ from the roofs you will see on houses.
To start, commercial roofs are typically flat. Residential roofs will often have a variation of an arched or sloped roof, but commercial roofs are usually flat, or pretty close to it.
Having a flat roof is much more affordable in the long run. If a commercial building does have a slope at all in the roof, it will be a very small one. While it is possible to put a sloped roof on a commercial building, it is much more difficult and costly than doing so for a residential roof. Flat roofs are safer to install on commercial buildings and they are more cost effective.
We offer two types of flat roofs for commercial and industrial buildings. These are EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) and TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin).
EPDM is a rubberized roofing membrane whereas TPO is a vinyl roofing membrane. TPO can last between fifteen to twenty years and EPDM can have a lifespan of more than fifty years depending on how the roof has been cared for.
Another difference between commercial and residential roofs is how long they take to put together.
A residential roof will be much faster since there is less surface area to cover. A commercial roof, however, will often take more time to ensure that the entire roof can be properly completed. This is also why flat roofs are easier to work with on larger buildings. They are much faster to work with when you have a very large building.
