As New Years approaches, many of us have resolutions that we hope to fulfill and follow through with. The majority of the time, these New Year’s resolutions wind up being about healthy eating and exercise. Of course, healthy lifestyles are very important, and we absolutely want to encourage you to take care of yourself. However, we want to suggest another resolution to take into consideration this New Years. We will call this the “Roof Year’s Resolution.”
What is this exactly? It probably sounds cheesy, but, silly name aside, it is important to keep in mind. This resolution is the one that will help you to take the very best possible care of your roof, making your house safer, and preventing any unnecessary roofing problems.
So where should you start?
We have put together our three most essential tips for taking care of your roof. Set your Roof Year’s resolution now by following the guide below.
Our first tip is to clean your gutters. This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many issues we see that are caused by clogged gutters. Gutters are meant to divert water away from the roof, but if they are clogged, the water has nowhere to go. It is important to check your gutters to assess that there is no clog or damage. If there is, it is time to get it fixed.
Our second tip is to keep your property and roof maintained. What do we mean by this? It is important to maintain everything about your roof and property. This means that you need to check in on the trees surrounding your house and cut any overhanging branches. If a tree is too close to the house and a bad windstorm hits, damage can happen pretty easily. It is also important to make sure all debris is cleared from the roof and leaves are cleared from valleys to prevent clogs or flooding.
Our third and final tip is to make sure you are getting routine checkups and tune ups. This doesn’t mean you constantly have to be calling a roofing company for help, but if there is any reason whatsoever that you suspect you might have damage on your roof, call to get it inspected. Damage like this needs a fast fix so it does not turn into anything worse. Get an inspection as soon as possible in these situations. Many inspections are free. Be mindful not to waste time. If you could possibly have damage, get it checked. You can also safely inspect your roof if you have a way to do so, but we do not recommend this if you are not absolutely sure you know what you are doing. Safety is the first priority.
With these three tips, your Roof Year’s resolution should be very easy to keep, and your roof will be in tip-top shape.
Have a very happy and healthy new year!
