Depending on the speed of the wind, after a storm, you may be left with no damage or a ton. As wind picks up speed, it can begin to bend or break the shingles, sending pieces of them flying across the yard. In addition, broken trees or branches can land on the roof, breaking right through it. This is why it is important to be aware of all of the trees around your house; make sure the branches are trimmed and not hanging over your roof as well. Sometimes, if there is minimal damage to your roof, it might be harder to identify whether or not there is a problem. We recommend getting a free inspection from a professional if this is the case. Having someone take a quick look at your roof can help you avoid a world of problems.
There are different levels of shingle damage, ranging from missing granules, bent shingles, actual missing shingles, or damage to the structure of the house itself. You might even have damage to your chimney after a windstorm.
No matter what damage you are left with, it is important to have a professional take a look immediately to let you know if anything needs to be repaired or replaced. In addition, make sure there is no damage to your gutters, siding, flashing, etc. Ignored damage can lead to bigger problems, eventually causing issues like leaks.
For similar reasons, do an inspection of the interior of your house as well, checking that there are no leaks or cracks in the ceiling. You can also go up into your attic if you have one to check the inside of the roof.
