As we begin 2025, we would like to take a moment to give the same reminder that we always do at the start of every year: when you set your New Year’s resolutions, you can also choose one for caring for your home. We have called these Roof Year’s Resolutions in the past, but this year, we ask you to consider your entire home and all the ways you can better care for it in the coming year.
Many people neglect their houses without realizing it. In fact, it is actually quite simple to stay up to date on the exterior of your home and its needs. There are many ways to do this, and you can simply take a look around your home to see if there are any signs of damage or needs for repairs.
Let’s take a look at a few:
- Schedule yearly inspections (we offer these for free)
- Take a look at your gutters; make sure they are not clogged
- Check your siding for any signs of bends, cracks, or warps
- Look for missing shingles on your roof
- Don’t ignore leaks; putting a bucket down is not a fix
- Pay attention to any air leaks or gaps in your doors and windows
- Look for mold and mildew, and call a professional if you notice any
- Trim back or hire someone to cut overhanging tree branches
- Remove dead trees near your house or hire a professional to do so
- Remove vegetation that has crept up the side of your home
- Have a fireplace inspection yearly before using it to prevent house fires from creosote buildup
- If you suspect you have any damage, call a professional as soon as possible
