Avoiding Damage with Halloween Decorations

Halloween is just around the corner, and many are very excited to celebrate. Between picking out costumes, buying candy, and putting up decorations, people everywhere are preparing for the spooky holiday. While decorations can be fun and exciting, it is always important to keep in mind that you have to be careful when hanging them up.

The problem is that the majority of people do not know safe practices for decorating their houses, and this can result in accidental damage. So, let’s take a look at some of the ways that you can safely decorate your house for Halloween, and what you should avoid to keep your house in great shape.

  1. Avoid nailing anything to your siding. Use siding clips or suction cups for lighting and other hanging decor.
  2. Do not hang anything from your gutters. They are not meant to take that much force.
  3. Be careful not to put anything on your roof that is too heavy. Your roof is not meant to support heavy objects, and it can become damaged from too much force.
  4. Do not leave your lights on all night, especially if they get hot, to avoid fires.
  5. Never nail anything into your window frames. You can place decorations or stickers inside of the windows, but hammering nails into window frames can cause damage in the long run.

You can hang fake webs and ghosts from trees, put scary stickers inside of your window, line your pathway in jack-o-lanterns, etc. These are all safe to do and fun without harming your home. Though it is fun to celebrate and decorate for the holidays, it is also necessary to remember that there are things you should avoid in order to keep your house in the best possible condition. This does not mean you should not have fun decorating. It simply means to take some more time to discover the safest ways to do so.
