What should you do if you find out a storm is coming?
Are there ways to prepare your house?
We are going to answer these questions today and learn more about how to keep your home safe when you hear about an oncoming storm.
Let’s say you turn on the news and find out that bad weather is approaching. It would be easy to just shrug and turn away, but it is important that you take the time to pay attention to your home and what you can do to keep it, and you, protected during bad weather.
Especially now, during hurricane season, it is important to have the necessary knowledge in order to be properly prepared.
First things first, make sure that all of your outdoor furniture is moved inside and/or secured. Furniture can easily be lifted by wind and can damage your home and surrounding buildings.
Next, check your windows. Make sure they are properly closed and locked in place and that the window shutters are secured so that they do not go flying away.
Take a look at your gutters. Clogged gutters can cause so much damage. If water does not have an easy path to the ground, it will collect on the roof and cause flooding and leaks. If you cannot easily check your gutters yourself, call a professional to get some help.
Make sure that all trees and branches are properly trimmed so that they cannot scratch up your roof. If you have a tree that is dead, have it removed immediately. Take a look at all surrounding trees and make sure that none can easily fall onto your house.
Make sure all doors are fully closed and locked, If one is blown open, wind and rain can wreak havoc.
If you have a pool or hot tub, make sure they are turned off and properly covered. Move grills and portable fire pits inside. It might feel cluttered, but you will be glad you protected your house and furniture.
