For many new home/ building owners, understanding the best ways to be taking care of your roof can be tricky. Often, there are many questions that people just don’t know the answer to.
How often should you be getting your roof inspected? Why is it important to? What happens if you skip inspections?
We have some amazing information on our website already about how to keep your roof in the best possible condition. Want to learn more about this? Check out our Roof Year’s Resolution blog.
However, we wanted to further explain and breakdown why it is so important to get your roof checked, and how often you should be doing it.
The main problem with giving an answer to how often you should be having your roof inspected is that there isn’t just one answer. The National Roofing Contractors Association recommends getting your roof inspected at least twice a year. We, however, don’t necessarily agree with that. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get your roof inspected as often, but there might be better ways to do it.
Instead of worrying about calling your local roofing company twice a year, we have a suggestion that might actually make this a lot easier on you. First of all, we recommend just getting it checked once a year, though more routine checks never hurt. Second, you don’t need to book just the inspection. The easiest and best way to get your roof inspected yearly, in our opinion, is to book it for the same time you get your gutters cleaned.
As you should know, getting your gutters cleaned every year is important. You might clean your own gutters though. In that case, take a quick scan of your roof while you are up there and assess for any damage. If anything looks off, call a roofing company.
The majority of people typically call a company for cleaning gutters, and many of these companies also specialize in roofing. Having them take a quick look while cleaning your gutters can be helpful in preventing many possible issues.
Since the gutters need at least a yearly cleaning (preferably more than that), it becomes easier to get your roof inspected at the same time. You can get everything done at once and then you have a whole year before you need to worry about it again.
While many people almost never get their roof inspected, we don’t recommend this. You may have gotten away with no routine checkups, but you also might not know what is truly going on with your roof.
As always, if you are ever unsure about anything, or if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.
